After graduating with a Master’s in Music Performance from Temple University, Darcey worked as an orchestral percussionist in orchestras such as the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Sarasota Opera, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, Florida Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. She has taught private music at all age levels, from three to seventy-eight years old, including time spent as interim head of the Percussion Department at the University of Miami (FL).
Darcey herself is a former Montessori Toddler and Early Childhood graduate of the Montessori House of Children in Davenport, Iowa. She worked at the Montessori Academy in Brentwood, TN as an assistant and became certified in Montessori Early Childhood after the birth of her daughter. She marvels at neuroscience’s support of Montessori’s observations from over a century ago and has found peace and motivation in her career as a teacher in this philosophy, believing it benefits the lives of many. She plays the Brazilian martial art Capoeira, loves to read, cook vegetarian things, and is a committed Vipassana (insight) meditator. She joined the MSL faculty in 2016.
