Melissa has been a Lower Elementary lead teacher at Montessori School of Louisville for the past three years. Upon finding Montessori education, she was inspired by the breadth of the curriculum, and how the Montessori philosophy recognizes all parts of human development. She values the attention to practical living skills and proper behavior and that they are introduced intentionally. She believes the sensorial materials add to the appreciation of the arts, and that the importance placed upon botany, zoology, geography and geometry enriches the child’s world view. “Peace education and the metaphysical questions invoked by the Five Great Lessons challenge the child to consider his place in the universe. The respect and appreciation for the environment and fellow living creatures that is inherent in Montessori education create a moral standard that benefits our society.” Melissa believes the purpose of the Montessori teacher becomes a calling to help children become curious and independent and to understand that learning can be both exciting and fulfilling throughout the entire course of their lifetime.
