Understanding the Whole Child

Montessori education is grounded in a deep understanding of child

development.

As children grow, their needs, interests, strengths, and abilities evolve. Our educators work to understand each child's unique developmental journey and partner closely with families to support that growth both at school and at home.

Through conferences, classroom observations, parent education events, and ongoing communication, we help families better understand what their children are experiencing and how they can msupport them during each stage of development.

We recognize that children thrive when the important adults in their lives work together. Strong partnerships between families, educators, and support professionals help create consistency, understanding, and the conditions that allow children to flourish.

Supporting Diverse Learners

Children develop at different rates and bring a wide range of strengths, interests, and learning styles to the classroom. Our goal is to understand each child as an individual and provide the support necessary for them to participate fully and successfully in our community.

When appropriate, MSL collaborates with a network of professionals who can provide additional support to children and families. These partnerships help us better understand and respond to a child's developmental, academic, social, and emotional needs.

Our support network may include:

  • School counselors and social-emotional learning specialists
  • Occupational therapists (OT)
  • Physical therapists (PT)
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Educational specialists
  • Learning support professionals

When beneficial to the child, we work collaboratively with families and outside providers to create consistent approaches that support growth across environments.

Social and Emotional Development

Academic growth is only one aspect of a child's development.

Children also need opportunities to develop confidence, resilience, empathy, self-regulation, and healthy relationships. Our educators intentionally support these skills through daily interactions, classroom community building, conflict resolution, Grace and Courtesy lessons, and opportunities for meaningful responsibility.

When additional social or emotional support is needed, we work with families to identify resources and develop plans that help children experience success both inside and outside the classroom.

A Partnership with Families

No one knows a child better than their family.

We view parents as partners in the educational process and believe that open communication, shared observations, and collaborative problem-solving are essential to supporting children effectively.

By working together, families, educators, and support professionals can create a strong foundation that helps children develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our commitment is to meet children where they are, celebrate their strengths, and provide the support they need to grow into capable, compassionate, and confident individuals.
